Kansas City, MO
Kansas City exemplifies Americold’s port-facility advantage, positioned on a major rail corridor to deliver shorter dray times, later cutoffs, earlier product availability, and a full suite of import/export services including I-House designation, USDA inspections, bonded space, and blast freezing.
Allentown, PA
As a forward distribution hub, Allentown sits in a key Northeastern corridor, ensuring products reach high-demand markets quickly and reliably. With its recent expansion adding 37,000 pallet positions and 327,000 square feet, the facility enhances Americold’s capacity to support customers across the densely populated New York–New Jersey region.
Russellville, AR
As a production-advantaged facility, Russellville sits close to customer manufacturing and uses advanced automation, sustainable design, and value-added services to support a fully integrated supply chain.
Mountville, PA
Mountville highlights Americold’s strength in retail distribution, using advanced systems to support case picking, consolidation, and other value-added services for major food retailers. The facility reflects our long-standing expertise in managing this complex, customer-critical work.
Americold’s Heritage
With over 120 years of innovation and excellence, Americold’s legacy in cold storage reflects a journey of service, growth, and transformation.
Americold’s roots date back to 1903 and were sculpted with the assistance of Ernest Woodruff when he merged three cold storage warehouses to form Atlantic Ice & Coal Company around 1903.
Atlantic Ice & Coal Company is renamed Atlantic Company. They sell plate ice in 10 x 14’ sheets that are 14 inches thick.
Atlantic Company begins to expand into a variety of different businesses, including cold storage.
Atlantic Company opens ice convenience stores. After, the ice convenience stores turn into modern day convenience stores under the brand name EZ.
Atlantic Company merges with Munford Do it Yourself stores and becomes Atlantic-Munford, driving rapid convenience store growth. The company then merges with Jackson Minit Market and Handy Andy and is renamed to become Jackson-Atlantic.
Jackson-Atlantic grows to 40 warehouses in the USA – one of the largest warehouse networks at the time.
Jackson-Atlantic merges with United Refrigerated Services, then sets out on a path to develop the USA’s most comprehensive cold storage network.
Atlanta, GA becomes the company’s home again.
Mergers and acquisitions continue, and the company’s current name, Americold, appears in 1997.
Americold acquires Freezer Services and the Camar Group.
Americold begins to expand after acquiring sites from ConAgra and other customers.
Americold acquires Versacold to become the largest temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution services provider in the world.
Americold files its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange under symbol COLD.
Americold welcomes our new customers and associates from PortFresh, Cloverleaf, Lanier Cold Storage, Nova Cold, and Zero Mountain.
Americold welcomes our new customers and associates from Caspers Cold Storage & AM-C Warehouses, Hall’s Warehouse Corporation, and AGRO Merchants.
Americold welcomes KMT Brrr!, Bowman Stores, Liberty Freezers and Coldco.
Formed strategic partnerships with DP World and CPKC, to optimize global trade flows.
Launched RSA Cold Chain joint venture, opening up Middle Eastern markets.
Established Automation Group as a standalone unit.
Opened two new global import-export hubs, one co-located with CPKC in Kansas City, Missouri and the other co-located with DP World in Dubai.
