What’s Near La Porte, TX

A hidden gem on the Galveston Bay, just 35 minutes east of downtown Houston, La Porte is a city built on history and community. Moving at a much slower pace than the thriving metropolis of Houston, there is much to explore

La Porte is a quintessential Gulf Coast town with plenty to offer. Five Points Town Plaza on Main Street is the home to many of the town’s events. You will find shopping, dining, and La Porte’s main festivals on Main Street, including Main Street Trade Days and Mardi Gras on Main.

La Porte offers four fabulous parks. Sylvan Beach Park is home to two sandy beaches, a playground for kids, picnic tables, and an air-conditioned pavilion. Grab your fishing pole and head out on the longest pier in the state.  Little Cedar Bayou Park offers a wave pool, a dog park (separated for large and small breeds), and a picnic area.  You can catch a baseball game at Pecan Park or get your steps in at the walking track. Seabreeze Park is a residents-only park with a fishing pier, fire pit, picnic area, and playground.

In 1836, General Sam Houston led the Texan Army in a surprise attack on the Mexican forces in Santa Anna that ended the war. You can visit the spot where Texas won its independence, overlooking the battleground from the 489-foot-tall tower at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. You can browse the exhibits and artifacts from this time in Texas history but also from over the past 500 years at the San Jacinto Museum of History.
