Sustainability Excellence is Day-to-Day Operational Discipline

As Earth Day encourages focus on environmental responsibility across industries, we believe its principles are most meaningful when they are applied consistently – not just recognized once a year.

Sustainability Excellence at Americold is built into how we operate, from our facilities and systems to support we provide to customers across our network. It is an operational discipline embedded in the Americold Operating System (AOS), the framework that allows us to deliver sustainable value through productivity, cost efficiency, safety, quality, and associate engagement.

Sustainable Practices Built Into AOS

Through AOS, we standardize practices designed to reduce energy use and emissions while protecting product quality and system reliability. Teams across our global network are trained on AOS and focused on practical actions that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and support long‑term resilience.

Sustainability in action:

  • Energy Waste Walks: Facilities regularly conduct site‑level reviews to identify inefficiencies, improvement opportunities, and reinforce best practices on the floor.
  • Energy Recognition Program: Designated site‑level champions help lead energy efficiency efforts, share insights, and turn data into action locally.
  • Operational efficiency through technology: Real‑time visibility built into AOS, along with targeted automation and system optimization, supports precise product movement, insight into energy consumption, and consistent temperatures.
  • Network optimization: Fewer touchpoints and smarter routing help minimize unnecessary miles while improving predictability for customers.

Our monitoring platforms provide continuous insight into power consumption and refrigeration performance across facilities. Facility engineering and maintenance teams review performance daily, while engineering and sustainability teams analyze trends across the network to proactively manage demand.

Across our network, that discipline matters. Every kilowatt managed well strengthens operational stability, protects inventory, and builds a more resilient cold chain, reinforcing Americold’s role as a dependable partner to our customers, people, and the communities we serve.
